Prémisse et motivation

La fille de l’espion s’appuie sur des faits et documents authentiques : c’est une histoire vraie dont les principaux témoins sont encore vivants. Sophie, femme franco-mexicaine brune d’une quarantaine d’années, au charme irrésistible, a toujours senti un mal-être en elle, dont elle ignorait l’origine. La mort soudaine de son père, en 2015, et le dévoilement d’un sombre passé l’amène à des découvertes dont elle ne sortira pas indemne. 

Cette mini-série en cinq épisodes, tournée à Paris, à México et à Prague, offre au spectateur une odyssée dans le temps et dans l’espace, afin de montrer en quoi le passé façonne parfois cruellement le présent. Ces trois langues – le français, l’espagnol et le tchèque – donnent à la série une couleur locale et une authenticité historique dont sont dépourvues certaines séries actuellement. Le montage permet d’alterner trois trames narratives totalement imbriquées : une enquête sur le vrai parcours d’un homme qui s’est caché toute sa vie ; une mise en contexte de l’espionnage anti-communiste à l’époque de la guerre froide ; enfin des retrouvailles et des révélations familiales inattendues et bouleversantes.      

La fille de l’espion est l’adaptation du livre espagnol autobiographique de Sophie Moghrani : Un espia en México, sorti avec succès en 2020 aux éditions Aguilar, filiale de Penguin Randome House. L’auteure, principale protagoniste du livre et de la série, y dévoile une histoire vraie, avec documents authentiques à l’appui. Cette implication personnelle donne à la série un caractère unique, dont il n’existe pas d’équivalent sur les plateformes. La découverte du vrai passé de son père – et donc du sien – va provoquer une souffrance mais aussi un sentiment de libération dont la série se fait l’écho.

His career as a spy was a life-long, closely guarded secret; after his death, his daughter embarks on a voyage of discovery that leads her to finally understand who he really was and who she is today.

Storyline

When her retired father dies in 2015 in Mexico City, Sophie, a former ballerina and fashion model, now in her forties, learns that her beloved dad had led a double life and decides to investigate his true identity. Fearful of revealing what could be a painful truth, she begins her inquiries in France – her country of birth – and then sets on a journey through Europe, in search of her father’s real timeline and events that marked his life. She discovers a heavy family past that has inevitably altered her destiny. This man she thought she knew so well was in the French counterespionage service during the course of the Cold War. By recomposing her father’s past, she manages to rebuild her own identity.

Premise and motivation

The Spy’s daughter is a first-hand, intimate, tale based on actual facts and authentic legal documents: it is a true story for which some of the main witnesses are still alive. Sophie, a French-Mexican woman in her forties, alluringly beautiful and charming, had always felt an uneasiness within her, and had no real understanding as to why. The sudden death of her father in 2015 and the unveiling of a dark past leads her to discoveries from which she will not come out unscathed.

This five-episode mini-series, shot on location in Paris, Mexico and Prague, offers viewers an odyssey through time and places, to show how the past sometimes cruelly shapes our present. These three languages ​​- French, Spanish and Czech – give the series depth and texture, adding local color, as well as historical authenticity, which some TV productions currently lack.

The story alternates between three completely interlocking narratives: an investigation into the true journey of a man who had been in hiding all his life; a context of anti-communist espionage during the Cold War era; finally, unexpected reunions and overwhelming family revelations.

The Spy’s daughter is an adaptation of Sophie Moghrani’s autobiographical novel, published first in Spanish: Un espia en México, which was successfully released in 2020 by Aguilar editions, a subsidiary of Penguin Randome House. The author, the main protagonist of the book and the series, reveals her true story with a unique, authentic archive of photographs and documents to support it. This personal involvement gives the series a unique character, one which sets the project apart from all current productions proposed on the digital platforms available. The discovery of her father’s true past – and therefore her own – will cause Sophie certain pain but will also become an endless source of utter and complete liberation to her spirit, which the series echoes from beginning to end.
